Unleash Your Summer Spirit: Tips for a Leak-Free Summer Experience

Unleash Your Summer Spirit: Tips for a Leak-Free Summer Experience

Bladder leaks are difficult to manage at any time of the year, but summer brings some unique challenges.
 ‎
Below are some general tips and guidance for things to do or to be mindful of.

 ‎

 ‎ ‎

Tip #1: Choose breathable fabrics

  ‎
  ‎

When we think of summer, we think of hot days and sweat. These two things don’t suit those who experience bladder leakage/incontinence. To make daily life a little easier, opt for breathable fabrics like cotton which allows air circulation, reducing the likelihood of moisture buildup and irritation. These fabrics are hypo-allergenic, meaning they are very gentle on the skin.

 ‎

Tip #2: Consider the colours you wear

 ‎
  ‎

Lighter coloured clothing is synergistic with the summer months, but this can be a problem as lighter colours don’t tend to hide accidental leaks as well as darker colours. It doesn’t mean you can’t wear bright clothing. You may be more comfortable wearing brighter tops with darker coloured bottoms.

  ‎

Tip #3: Carry extra supplies 👜

 ‎
 ‎
Being prepared with extra incontinence supplies is always good to have at your disposal, especially when planning a day out in the heat. Packing a travel bag with a fresh change of clothing, incontinence products like our Comforts pads, and wipes such as our Intimate Wipes for a quick clean and refresh on the go.

  ‎

Tip #4: Plan bathroom breaks 🚽

  ‎
 ‎

One of the easiest ways to prevent summer accidents is to plan out bathroom breaks before leaving home. If you're visiting a new place or going on a road trip, the National Public Toilet Map is a fantastic resource! This map shows the location of more than 19,000 public and private facilities across Australia!

  ‎

Tip #5: Use fragrant free wipes 🌸

 ‎
 ‎
‎ Wet wipes are a fantastic item to carry with you in general, but make sure you choose gentle, fragrance-free wipes as fragrances can cause skin irritation. Our new Intimate Wipes are made with 100% Organic Cotton and a soothing blend of gentle ingredients to provide a refreshing touch for sensitive skin.

 ‎

Tip #6: Stay hydrated 💧

  ‎
  ‎
‎Hydration is always important, but it’s especially important to drink plenty of water in Summer. Not only will you avoid illnesses like heatstroke or heat exhaustion, but staying hydrated can help with incontinence management in general.
 ‎
When you are dehydrated (you go to the bathroom and see that your urine is a dark yellow colour), it irritates the bladder and can exacerbate symptoms such as urgency or leaks. Staying hydrated dilutes the urine, making it less concentrated and therefore leads to less bladder irritation.
  ‎
To minimize your trips to the bathroom, take small sips of fluid regularly instead of consuming an entire beverage in one sitting or within only a couple minutes.

Tip #7: Enjoy yourself! 🥳

 ‎

Summer comes around once a year, so make sure you live in the moment and enjoy your time in nature, with yourself and with the people you love.
